David has a professional history in the film industry working as an award winning cinematographer on documentary and drama productions. Since moving to Kangaroo Island he has participated with the active local art community working collaboratively and individually. Over the past ten years David has established en plein air Films, directing and producing independent documentaries with themes involving art and the environment.
Recently he started focusing on moving image installations as a way of expanding his engagement with the landscape.
'My installations observe the Australian landscape, partly in awe and celebration but also questioning our post-colonial impact on these timeless places, and allowing the viewer time to reflect on their own relationship with this ancient environment.'
'The slow unravelling of each story demands equally slow but sharp attention. The landscapes are devoid of humans but all the more alive for that absence. A casual viewer might think there’s nothing happening...... but there is so much to experience, absorb, savour if one takes the slow path. It's the ultimate antidote to the rush and tear of the 21st century, an immersive, meditative experience.' Les Montanjees MA (Art History)
